Oh absolutely but then again pull tabs are still not anywhere as good as the screws you get on pretty much every other laptop, the reality is that the repair is still far riskier with pull tabs expecially when they break like they often tend to do.Īnd while I can understand why they don't do that on phones since the space is limited there is absolutely no excuse why they couldn't put screws on something comparatively huge like this, they clearly made this choice so that it would still be hard for normal consumers to repair their machines while it would at least be fixable for them pretty much.Īgain when the 10/10 on the iFixit scale is the Framework laptop (Where you can literally replace anything) and the ones scoring 7/10 to 9/10 are the ones I mentioned above, I think that 4/10 is a perfectly fair score for the new MacBooks considering the older ones were getting like 1/10 or 2/10 anyway. I can get replacement MacBook batteries easily but melting the glue with isopropyl and then scraping off residue for 10 minutes is messy as hell and it’s scary bending battery cells. The removable SSD alone is something that's crucial when it comes to defining a laptop as "repairable" in my opinion since it's both a component that tends to die over time and it's also much easier to recover data from a removable SSD in the event where the laptop gets damaged, if you can't do that I personally don't think that laptop deserves anything more than a 6/10 in the iFixit scale.
